Gallery with Residency programme

OneArt is committed to create a prestigious residency programme for non-Euroamerican artists who will actively contribute to the curatorial programme of the OneArt gallery and who will produce art work which will be related to the current theme of the gallery project, such as Identity, Sacrifice or Art on Periphery. The gallery programme aims to connect activities of the artists in residency with the local artistic scene and by doing so to create an opportunity for a productive artistic dialogue. Art works created in due course of the residency will become a part of the gallery’s unique collection of art which will have a specific connection to Prague, the Czech Republic and to the theoretical dialogue developed by the gallery.

The core of our activities is the residency programme for artists who will create original art work dealing with issues selected from our curatorial plan (for example problems related to identity, sacrifice, implications of working on the periphery, etc.) and who will become a part of the local art scene, at least for the time of their residency in Prague. OneArt thus also provides an opportunity for local artists to enter into dialogue with artists from abroad through workshops, debates and exhibitions.

Norman Bryson said in his work on art and context that the meaning of art work could shift according to its current context or surrounding environment. The actual frame around the art work is, in fact, dependent on the way how the audience approaches and interpret the piece. The approach or a frame that is severely lacking here is the intercultural and transnational perspective. OneArt as a platform will allow for analysis of this kind. The gallery aims to stimulate discussion among artists and also to create a thinking space for theorists and curators
