Carla Liesching

Lives and works in South Africa

Carla Liesching is a photographer from Johannesburg, South Africa. She received a BFA from Rhodes University in 2007, specializing in photography, video, and theatre and has since taught photography at various institutions around the world. Liesching has exhibited widely in her home country and internationally. Recent exhibitions include a showcase at the Foto Museo in Bogota, Colombia; the Belgium based RecycleArt’s Africa Number Two and the noteworthy Beer’s Lambert exhibition I am solitary I am an army at Surface Gallery in England. She was also recently included in a South African Photography retrospective through Stephan Welz & Co.; South Africa’s largest biennale of contemporary art, Spier Contemporary and the Stellenbosch Museum’s Lens: fractions of contemporary photography and video in South Africa. Liesching is currently showing in the group exhibition The Benediction of Shade at David Krut. Following the solo exhibition of her series, The Swimmers, a forthcoming body of work is scheduled for exhibition in November 2013 in Cape Town, South Africa. Liesching has recently spent time living and working in Taipei, Taiwan and is now based in Brooklyn, New York.
