Marlise Keith

Born in South Africa
Lives and works in South Africa.

A full time artist since 2006, Keith is also involved in various teaching programmes. When drawing, she continues her preoccupation with the random unpredictable qualities of working in ink. Her work layers abstract elements with finely drawn figurative objects. Her work depicts anonymous individuals and can be understood as metaphors of her personality and character. Keith’s work also expresses a highly personal need to create some peace for herself in her bewilderment with the purpose and nature of life.

During my postgraduate studies, I worked at Dorp Street Gallery, managing minor clerical work, liasing with artists, as well as patrons, and assisting at exhibition openings. My experience in Interior Decorating (Savannah Interiors 1996-97), was used in shop dressing and display at this Gallery, and other shops such as ERA in Stellenbosch. During this period I also attended the Dorp Street Gallery stall at the Decorex exhibition at Spier in 1999.
